Andrew (Andy) Zvanitajs is currently one of three Deputy Fire Chiefs in the City of Vaughan Fire & Rescue Service, in Vaughan, Ontario, where he assists in the day to day management and direction of all administration tasks including; Fire Prevention, Training, and Communications. Additional responsibilities include; Disability Management/Return to Work, the Public Order Unit (fire), Health & Safety, and Procurement. He assists the Fire Chief, other Chief Officers, and Division Chiefs in leading 360 career firefighters. After attending McMaster University, he worked in an administrative role at the Canadian Embassy in Beijing, China, and as a paramedic upon his return to Canada in 1996. Andrew retired from the Canadian Forces at the rank of Captain and joined the fire service in 1996 after working as a paramedic in Ontario. He has completed a BA in History from McMaster (1996), has an EMCA (paramedic) diploma from Algonquin College (1994), and a Queen’s University Diploma in Mental Health Leadership (2016).
